Don’t negotiate with terrorists

There is a Mazandarani (Caspian sea province) saying: When a Mullah gets on a donkey he will not come off it until either he dies or the donkey.

The deadline that the UN Security Council Resolution 1737 imposed on Iran for suspending its nuclear program has now passed with Iran defiant. Is there a path to peaceful resolution of the looming conflict between Iran and the international community?

Firstly, there is a terrorist element in the Islamic regime. This dreadful element will continue to operate even when not in the government. It has its own power base in the revolutionary guards and the Basijis, which are formed by ill-educated simple Iranians who are easily brainwashed by the terrorists loyal to Khomeini and Khamenei. This is where the support for the Hezbullah, Qods and other terrorist organisations comes from. The leaders of these forces have carte blanche power to act independently of all state institutions except the leadership. The terrorist element of the regime at the moment is under direct leadership of Khamenei but will not relinquish by his death. Khamenei is only a flag bearer. He follows the guidelines that Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic left behind and the next leader will have to do the same. It is incorrect to believe that the next leader might divert from some Khomeini’s principles and guidelines. The guidelines are pretty much in place and straight forward. There are still many of Khomeini’s followers still alive and loyal to him. As for how important Khomeini is to the regime just take a trip to his shrine near the Behesht Zahrah cemetery, south of Tehran. There is no realistic hope of a reformist spiritual leader until all the Khomeini loyalists have vanished and the gradual softening of his policies has taken place. This may take many years. The terrorist element has destroyed and will continue to do so any hopes of reform of the regime. This terrorist element, until completely annihilated, will continue to terrorise Iranians and the world. The world cannot afford to wait for a slow and gradual annihilation of the terrorist elements of the Islamic regime.

Secondly, the proximity of fundamentalists to the nuclear technology and the bomb is indeed scary. Should the regime through negotiations be allowed to pursue its nuclear activities even under the watchful eyes of the IAEA and thereby make leaps and bounds in this respect, the terrorist element of the regime would get their hands on and abuse the mastered technology and deliver it to the terrorist groups they support and train. Past experience has proved that it is possible to fool the IAEA. There is a mutual trust and confidence between IAEA and the nuclear country and the success of IAEA’s monitoring the nuclear activities hugely depends on full cooperation from the state and on the very mutual trust and confidence term. I am not at all confident that the Islamic regime would be capable of complying with this term. Therefore, the international community’s insistence on the regime’s halting all nuclear activities before any negotiations take place is reasonable and wise.

Thirdly, the regime insists on its nuclear technology program and has made it crystal clear that it would not make an iota of concession on that front. In fact, any concession on that front would be considered as a defeat by the regime and thus it would be futile to build on any strategies on the basis that there is a chance the regime might suspend its nuclear program. In fact, it would give the regime more time to get closer to the bomb.

Fourthly, it is clear that the regime would not be interested in using its nuclear program as a bargaining tool to get something else unlike the North Koreans. The regime does not need money and in fact, has enough of it to supply the Hezbullah, Hamas, Qods and others all at the same time; it has managed to enlist, through previous bargaining with the West, some of its opposition as terrorists and zero coverage of the opposition by the Western mainstream media; is in total control of the country with an iron fist; is manufacturing its own military arsenal and recently, space rockets; and is confident in itself as a growing regional power. What concessions could the international community possibly make to entice the Islamic regime to suspend its nuclear program?

So here we have a terrorist regime that wants to obtain nuclear technology. This is not a simple matter of a small terrorist group fighting for certain regional rights: the terrorist regime’s list of demands includes the annihilation of certain states and imposition of medieval and backward ideology worldwide. Khamenei and Ahmadinejad and their ilk are not only the enemies of the West and democracy but also the enemies of the Iranians and our rich civilised culture. Negotiations with terrorists are never considered to be a wise move. In this case, negotiations without preconditions with a tyrannical regime that violates its own people’s basic human rights and with such demands as the annihilation of another state namely Israel is foolish.

There would have been a path to peaceful resolution had it not been for the terrorist element in the Islamic regime that now has the full control of the country. That element is not only anti-Western, anti-human, anti-modernity, anti-democracy and anti-Iranian, but also seeks to implement its fundamentalist Islamic ideology in every country of the world, i.e. the Islamic rule as promised by the Koran and return of the hidden Imam and by use of force if necessary. The terrorist element of the Islamic regime unilaterally declared and waged their war against humanity decades ago. If there is any hope of ending that war, it should come from the terrorist element of the Islamic regime and that will never come. Furthermore, It is inconceivable to accept the Islamist terrorists’ medieval ideology in the 21st century and therefore the answer to the question is no, there is no path to peaceful resolution. Unless, of course, the international community surrenders to the terrorist regime’s demands of becoming a nuclear power so that it continues terrorising Iranians and the rest of the world and Mullahs and Imams can sit in their high chairs and preach freely to the vulnerable people of all societies and incite and encourage them to further terrorise the rest of the society into submitting to their medieval and subhuman way of life. As an Iranian I do not advocate war on my homeland. However I do support the war against the terrorists who have taken over my country.

The Association of Iranian Blog-writers (Penlog) condemns the arrest
of Ahma Batebi and demands his immediate release from the care of the
prison’s authorities to receive immediate and adequate medical treatment.

According to the latest reports, Ahmad Batebi’s condition has
drastically deteriorated because of the torture and mistreatment he
has received, whilst in prison, and since his re-arrest several months
ago.
He is reported to have suffered a stroke and been in a coma for
several hours. According to reports, he is presently at the inadequate
and ill-equipped Shohada hospital in North of Tehran. The authorities
have so far refused to transfer him to a better hospital for proper
and adequate treatment.

Last year two Iranian prisoners of conscience, Akbar Mohamadi and
Valiullah Feiz-Mahdavi died as the result of the tortures and
mistreatments they received whilst in the care of the Islamic
Republic’s prison authorities.

We appeal to the international community, all the human rights
organisations and activists to take notice of the plight of the
Iranian prisoners of conscience and to take action for the release of
Ahmad Batebi.

We appeal to the human rights organisations of the United Nations and
the European Union to take further notice of the systematic violation
of human rights in Iran. We demand that the continuation of the
Islamic Republic’s membership of the United Nation must be on the
condition that the Islamic Republic respects all the human rights of
the Iranian people according to the United Nation’s International
Convention on Human Rights.

Whatever, the regime must go

It is argued, on behalf of the regime, that the presence of the Iranian made bombs and explosives does not per se indicate the involvement of the Islamic government in the killing of American soldiers. The presence of Iranian bombs and explosives may or may not indicate that the regime at its highest level is involved in supplying the insurgents with these bombs and explosives. However, at least one thing it does illustrate is the regime’s inability to have controls over such weapons of mass destructions that it either produces or is supplied with from outside. This is exactly the point. Is it not? That should a rogue regime with its track records acquire nuclear technology and eventually nuclear bombs, would it not be possible thatt the nuclear technology and bombs could fall into the hands of some terrorist groups?

Many compare the present situation with the Russians and Chinese supplying of arms to the enemies of the West. This is what they say: When the Russians and Chinese were supplying our enemies we did not go to war with these countries because such attacks on these countries would have been detrimental to us and the rest of the world. We talked to them, negotiated, and eventually found peaceful solutions. Richard Nixon was talking to both the Chinese and Soviets at the same time when we had troops on the ground in Vietnam being killed with their weapons. And eventually the negotiations paid off.

I am not here to argue that America should attack Iran. But rather counter argue with those who argue we should negotiate with the regime. There are a number of factors that are very different this time around that do not seem to be taken much notice of by those who want America to negotiate with the Islamic regime. Firstly, both the Russians and Chinese had full control over their weapon productions and the supplying of these weapons was always endorsed at the highest levels. The communist system should be hailed for their total control over their system if not anything else. Besides, The Russians and Chinese had nuke bombs and surly a war with the Russians and the 1.2 billion Chinese would be catastrophic. This is why negotiations were the most pragmatic approach. The Islamic regime, however, is not in control of its weapons or itself for that matter and most importantly, the Islamic regime does not value life in the same way the Russians and Chinese did and do. It is true that both regimes executed and still do (perhaps more so in China) dissidents but none of them considered sacrificing their country and/or the entire population for their cause unlike the Islamic regime that believes in order to advance Islam, it may be necessary to sacrifice a whole country. This is what Ayatollah Khomeini said and what Ayatollah Khamenei is saying right now! Secondly, at the time of the war in Vietnam, there was not a ticking clock as such. The present situation is a race against the time. The Islamic regime is not far from acquiring enough technology to make its first nuclear bomb and that is why decisions and actions must be taken swiftly and correctly.

As an Iranian, I would naturally oppose any form of military attacks on my homeland, but I do condemn any form of negotiations with the regime that would either prolong or further strengthen their tyrannical rule. I wish those who want the West and America to negotiate with the Islamic regime would also make some references to the suffering of the Iranian people at the hands of the regime.

Car Bomb in Zahedan-Iran, Kills 18 Rev. Guards

TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- At least 18 people were killed when a car bomb exploded near an Iranian military bus Wednesday morning in the southeastern Iranian border town of Zahedan, state-run Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

An undetermined number of people were wounded in the bombing.

A witness told IRNA the car blew up as soon as the bus, which belonged to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, arrived to pick up military personnel at the barracks.

Two motorcycle riders reportedly fired shots at the bus, forcing it to stop near the car bomb, which was then detonated by remote control, a witness said.

Zahedan is located along the Iran-Pakistan border.

Fars News reported that 4 people have been arrested for the bombing.

LATEST NEWS*

The Islamic Regime claims that the attack was carried out by a Sunni group. However, a group who calls itself "the Resistance Movement of Iran" (Jondullah), in a statement released earlier today, has claimed responsibility for the bombing and has clarified that they are neither Sunnis nor Shias, but an independent organisation. The statement clarifies that the organisation neither believes in nor condones violence. However, since the regime does not respond to but crushes non-violance protests it will continue its attacks on the regime's military and Revolutionary Guards until it responds to non-violence protests of the Iranian people and only then will they lay down their arms. The statement further clarifies that "Our organisation has no connections with the drug smuggling bandits, Taliban or Al Qaida and if the regime considers itself true and honest why does it not publish in its controlled media the findings of its agents and representatives who regularly visit us?" And further states that "Our demands are the same legal and logical rights that all the people in the world enjoy and our first demand from the Islamic regime is to respect the International Convention on Human Rights and respect the rights of all minorities in Iran.

Officials in Rasht Prison Punish Delara Darabi and Her Friends on Her 21st Birthday

Officials in Rasht prison punished Delara Darabi and her prison mates for celebrating her 21st birthday on Saturday, September 29, 2007.

According to our reporter, on Saturday, Delara, had asked a group of her prison mates to join her in celebrating her birthday. However, because Delara's birthday celebration coincided with a Shi'te Islamic day of mourning, prison officials interrupted the gathering, and took Delara and her friends to the prison magistrate on charges of disturbance of prison's peace.

Based on these charges, Delara and her friends are being held in a separate part of the prison, and, as of the date of this publication, their visitation privileges with family members have been suspended.

Delara's friends had organized the birthday celebration to cheer up Delara, who has been suffering from extreme depression as well as mental and physical ailments. However, the prison officials' actions have subjected Delara to even harsher conditions.

A few days ago, many people from outside of Iran had sent presents to Delara along with birthday wishes and greetings. Yet, the actions of prison officials left young Delara without even a smile on her special day.

Delara Darabi’s Defense Lawyer: My client’s casefile was sent to the head of the judiciary for permission to execute.

Iranian Student News Agency – Tehran

Delara’s Defense Lawyer: My client’s case-file was sent to the head of the judiciary for permission to execute.

Abdosamad Khoramshahi, in an interview with ISNA legal reporter, explained the latest status of his client: "In the last days of the [Supreme Court’s] Findings Branch session, we submitted our objections, which were sent to Branch 7 of the Findings Branch."

He noted "even though the case has not been reviewed by Branch 7, the case file, for the purposes of execution, was sent from Rasht to the head of the judiciary for approval."

Pointing to the fact that his client’s case file was sent for approval to Iran’s head of judiciary, Khoramshahi opined: "The submission of my client’s case-file on a request for permission before a review of our objections in the Findings Branch is not legal. "

Khoramshahi explained: “Our objections must first be reviewed in the Findings Branch before a request for permission is submitted to the head of the judiciary.”

Approval of Delara’s Death Sentence in Distinction Branch of the Supreme Court

Approval of Delara's Death Sentence in Distinction Branch of the Supreme Court

A source familiar with Delara's case reports that Delara's death sentence has been approved and the order will be soon issued to her lawyer.

Delara Darabi, accused of murder, has spent the past 3 years in prison. Recent beatings in prison have left her with a broken arm and she is not feeling well.

Yesterday, Delara's father filed a letter with the head of the judiciary, seeking a transfer of prison for his daughter. In this letter, Delara's father states: "Delara is in dire condition and is suffering greatly. She is only accused. We have reasons to show that she is not a murderer. However, even if she were guilty, she has a basic right to be treated fairly in prison, not to have her arm broken. If Delara is a murderer, she should be executed once, not a thousand times. Yet, in Rasht prison, she is executed a thousand times a day. I need your help to save my daughter."

In an discussion with Mino Hemati of Rahai-Zan TV, Abdolsamad Khoramshahi, Delara's defense counsel stated today that his objection to Distinction Branch's decision was rejected today. Accordingly, the only person who can commute this sentence is the head of the judiciary, Ayatollah Shahroudi. By finding fault in the case, he can issue a new trial or commute Delara's death sentence.

Beatings Have left Delara with a Broken Arm

Delara Darabi's lawyer reported about Delara’s abuse in prison: According to sources close to the case, Delara has been severely abused in prison and has been beaten extensively, leaving her with a broken arm.

Delara is in extremely poor emotional and mental state, and there are concerns that she will once again attempt suicide. When she last had contact with her family, Delara requested that they no longer come to her visit, and has even refused to see her father. Meanwhile, efforts by Delara’s lawyer and father to secure a transfer for Delara to a prison in Tehran have been unsuccessful.

Considering that the approval of Delara’s death sentence has placed her case in the last stages, the only person who can stop the execution is Iran’s head of the judiciary, Ayatollah Shahroudi. Khoramshi (Delara's lawyer) remains hopeful that this case has been reviewed by Shahroudi’s office and that he will commute the sentence. However, he emphasizes that until the sentence is actually commuted, there is reason to be concerned.

Ahmadinejad: A young student has produced nuclear energy at home!

In this video, Ahmadinejad talks about the possibility of producing home made nuclear energy (bombs) at home. Whether this is a complete bullshit or he is trying to further scare the world or simply misleading his simple audience, I don’t know! He says, “[A] secondary school teacher told me a young 16 year old student with the help of her brother has produced nuclear energy at home”. “I told our scientists whose average age is 25, to investigate this to see if it is true, and they found that it is true. They had produced nuclear energy using basic equipments they obtained from the local shops. You see, we can, they tell us we cannot but we tell them we can.” "The young student has now joined the team of our nuclear scientists. She has her own chauffeur driven car and escorts!" This is self-believing."

Nearly fell off my chair! This man is a complete moron!

Justice, The Islamic Republic of Iran’s way!

Shamameh (malek) Ghorbani

Neither the atrocities of the regime against the Iranian people, nor its mismanagement of the political, economic and social affairs of the country are news. But the regime’s judicial system is something else! The regime’s judiciary is incompetent and its substantive laws are medieval, flawed, and absurd.

The penal system is based on the principle of Ghesaas, which allows the victim to either punish or pardon the culprit. Ghesaas means the culprit is able to pay the victim or victim's relatives large sums of money to buy his or her freedom and go back to the community (blood-money), on the other hand a poor culprit could be punished disproportionately. Ghesaas enables the rich criminals to walk the streets and hence, create a community where the rich rules with corruption and criminality. In modern societies the state owes a duty of care and protection to its citizens as well as the victim. Therefore it is the system that decides what the punishment for the culprit should be.

The recent case of Shamameh Ghorbani, is a good example of the regime’s absurd laws and its incompetence to implement justice. The story is this: Shamameh had an extramarital affair with a man. The man was stabbed to death and she herself was brutally stabbed and beaten to near death by her husband and her brother when they were caught in the act. She was hospitalised and has recovered from her injuries.

After the preliminary hearing, Shamameh’s father sacked her defence lawyers because they “were talking against my son and son-in-law.” Her father also said,” Shamameh has committed adultery and must die”! Shamameh herself wants to be stoned to death because, she says: “I don’t want my husband and brother to be executed and if they die I want to die as well”, She told her defence lawyers, “I know you are good and trying to save my life but I will be killed or made to kill myself later, so it is for the best if I am stoned to death now.”

In a modern society this would happen: the brother and the husband would be charged with murder and grievous bodily harm and if they were lucky they would each get a minimum of a term of life imprisonment. Shamameh would receive help from the state and extensive support and counselling from various victim support groups.

What will happen in the Islamic Iran is this:

Shamameh will be stoned to death.

Her brother and her husband could walk free if they could afford to pay the blood money to the relatives of the man they killed (Ghesaas).

In the Islamic Republic of Iran lovers are killed and stoned to death and the murderers walk the streets.

This is justice, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s way!

Regime change is possible by the coalition of three main opposition groups

Regime change in Iran should now be the line that the Americans and the EU should pursue in earnest, while tightening the grip around the neck of the Islamic regime through the UN sanctions. Regime change is possible when there is a viable alternative to replace the regime. The alternative can be created by a coalition of the Iranian opposition forces. There are three main political parties in the opposition, namely, the Constitutional Monarchists, the Mojahedin-e- Khalgh (MEK) and the Jebhe Melli. All three parties claim to be democratic and advocate democracy. But the problem is that neither believes the others to be truly democratic. These political parties have long lists of reasons to blame one another for failures, betrayal, and hidden agendas: they don’t trust each other enough to sit down together and find the democratic framework within which they can create the democratic political system. These three main parties are well established and have a history of fighting the dictatorial regimes. They are all popular with great many supporters and their leaders are all well known. Together, they hold the key to a democratic Iran. Whilst I understand that there are some vital differences between the three groups and each have grievances against the others but nothing that cannot be resolved.

The MEK is an organisation that rightly or wrongly made a decision to form a liberation army to fight the Islamic regime. They based their military operation in Iraq. That decision, however, was made in the light of the events in the early days after the 1979 revolution and the atrocities committed by the Islamic regime against their members, supporters and sympathisers. Whether the decision to base itself in Iraq was a mistake or not is debatable but the regime successfully used it in their propaganda against the MEK. However, the decision to fight the regime back does not make them a terrorist organisation but only in the eyes of the terrorist Islamic regime who has made huge efforts, and quite successfully, to isolate them internationally and even has made great political and economical concessions so that the MEK is perceived as a terrorist organisation. However, MEK did not terrorise the Iranian Public but their subjects were the Islamic regime’s elements who had terrorised their members, supporters and sympathisers. The MEK’s military operations against the Islamic regime were far more justified than, for example, the IRA in Northern Ireland. The IRA in Northern Ireland was a terrorist organisation, which terrorised the innocent British people. IRA was a terrorist organisation yet the British government eventually came to the conclusion that engagement and dialogue with the Sinn Fein, the political wing of IRA, was the only way to end the bloodshed and a solution to the Northern Ireland problem. It worked and the British democracy, as the result has been further enhanced.

I would not trust any of the said groups individually. However, in my opinion, the three groups have the capability to keep each other in check. Each group is well organised and have the resources to remain as a political force in the Iranian political arena despite all efforts made to annihilate them. The MEK has remained unscathed despite all the efforts by the regime, some forces in the opposition and their inclusion in the list of terrorists by the USA. The ECJ recently ordered the release of their assets as it found them not to be a terrorist organisation. The MEK enjoys the support of many European MPs and they have many supporters inside Iran. They are the ones who continually expose the regime’s nuclear operations. They even have supporters inside the regime itself! The three said groups are far more organised than any other groups in the opposition. The regime fears these three organisations and their support by the people of Iran far more than the military actions from the USA or Israel.

The Americans or any other country for that matter can play a vital role by acting as the mediator between these groups. I believe this should be done without wasting any more time. The reason why I suggest Americans or any other country to take the role of the mediator is that the task is simply beyond the capability of any Iranian individual or group. I believe once these three groups have together founded the democratic system and framework, and the true democratic alternative is presented to the Iranian people, the fall of the regime is further accelerated. In my opinion, even the need for the expensive and controversial military actions against the Islamic regime may never arise.
